Mauro Schembri

MAURO SCHEMBRI.

Born in Agrigento (ITALY), he begin the academic studies in Palermo: Bachelor's degree in Music Disciplines at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at University of Palermo, graduated in Mandolin with Full marks with Honors (magna cum laude) at the Conservatory "V. Bellini " in Palermo, where he studied under the guidance of Maestro Emanuele Buzi.

He attended postgraduate courses with Dorina Frati, and with Mauro Squillante at the Budapest Miszla Baroque Academy.

He played in more than 15 International Festivals with the "Sikania" Association, directed by Lorenzo Puma, travelling around the world for 10 years, also taking a tour in Japan for the “Min-On Concert Association” of Tokyo (Japan).

The most significant experiences are collaborations with the Teatro Massimo of Palermo directed by Renato Palumbo and Alexander Polyanichko, with the Arena Sferisterio of Macerata directed by Riccardo Frizza, with the Italian Embassy in Oman (Muscat), with the “Franco Ferrara Philharmonic” with the "V. Bellini Symphonic Orchestra" and solo with the “Salvatore Cicero Chamber Orchestra" at Teatro Politeama Garibaldi for the season" Amici della Musica di Palermo" directed by Loris Capister.

He won second place at the prestigious "Abbado Prize" competition in 2015 for the mandolin category.

With Quintetto a pizzico Nomos performs for the Auditorium RAI in Palermo, the season "Le bois qui Chant" at Chateau d'Oex (Switzerland), the “International Orchestra a plettro Festival” at Teatro Greco di Taormina, the “L. Tadini Academy” of Lovere (BG), the “Bellagio Festival” (CO), the "Friday in the Valley" at the Valley of Temples and the Teatro L. Pirandello in Agrigento, and Ursino Castle in Catania too.

He received the "Sicilian Art and Culture Prize - Ignazio Buttitta" for the XIV edition for music category  with Sikania Mandolin Ensemble at Chiaramonte Castle in Favara (AG), and in September 2013 receives from Ambrogio Sparagna the "Special Prize for Critics" at the Termini Folk Festival with the ensemble of world-music Athenaeum Folk.
