Artists Visits

Short films shot inside artists' studios, one artist per visit. An artist studio visit here shows the room as it actually is: the bench, the tools, the wall of things that did not work, and usually a piece that is nowhere near finished. Nobody uploads these. Someone goes there with a camera.

What a studio looks like depends entirely on the practice. A sculptor's floor is covered in dust and offcuts; a printmaker works around a press that cannot be moved; a guitarist needs almost nothing and a room that does not echo. The films are short, and they are mostly the artist talking while working.

Each visit is tied to the artist in it, so the work you see half made in the film can be followed through to the finished piece elsewhere on the site. Visits play one after another if you want to keep going, and signed in you can save one to your favourites. Watching needs no account.

This is one of two parts of the site not posted by the artists themselves. A visit exists because someone arranged it, turned up, filmed and cut it, which is why they appear when they are ready and not on a schedule. Older visits stay up. The studio in them may well have changed since.
