Juanjo Arques

Juanjo Arques received his dance training in his hometown of Murcia, Spain. Before moving to the Netherlands in 2004, he spent five years as a soloist with Ballet Victor Ullate in Madrid, and four years as a soloist with English National Ballet. In 2004, Mr. Arques joined Dutch National Ballet as a Grand Sujet, and three years later he was promoted to Soloist. Dancing with this three companies enabled him to perform the variety of works by notable choreographers ranging from classical to neoclassical, including William Forsythe, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, David Dawson, Hans van Manen. After choreographing several pieces for choreographic workshops, he made Minos, his first ballet for Het National Ballet, in 2010. Following the success of Minos, Mr. Arques was ask to choreograph Consequence for the 50th anniversary of the company in 2012.

In recent years he has received international commissions such as Miniatures for Slovenian National Ballet, Unsound for Compañia Nacional de Danza, Madrid, Crossroads for WimWhim, Seattle. His latest works Roulette (2014), Rewind (2014), Carolingians (2014) Blink (2015), Bites (2015), Departure have premiered in Holland, Belgium and Switzerland by Dutch National Ballet, April (2015) for the New York Choreographic Institute and #Boogie (2015) for Continuum Contemporary Ballet in New York. In 2014, Mr. Arques was nominated for the Dutch Dans Award Prize in Maastricht He also collaborated as a movement consultant for the theater play ‘Vaslav’ based on Arthur Japin's novel and Performing Gender, a european dance project on the research themes for identity and sexual orientation in Bologna. Currently he is looking forward to the new premiere of Fresas, a new ballet for the Junior Company of Dutch National Ballet for the 500th anniversary of Hieronymus Bosch's death in 2016. Arques is one of the nominees of the Russian National Theatre Golden Mask Award - 2016 with the russian troupe Ballet Moskva.
