Animation Screenings and Open Studios
A screening room dims just before a reel that took months to finish gets its first audience in one sitting. Lights down. Painting has its openings and photography its private views; animation has screenings, open studios where drawings and rigs sit out for anyone to look at, and degree shows where a cohort's films run one after another. Each occasion on this page is posted by whoever made it, in animation's own vocabulary, and Artistivo carries it exactly as they wrote it.
Animation's calendar follows the gap between making and showing rather than the turn of a season. A film built frame by frame, whether by one animator or a small crew, stays unseen for the length of its production, so a finished piece reaches a room only once the work is done. That is why a screening or a degree show reads as an event in its own right: everything behind it was invisible until the moment it plays. Artistivo lists these occasions exactly as their makers post them.
A screening runs to the length of its programme, whether a single short or several films shown together, with a fixed start time rather than a drop-in window. Some are free and some ticketed, and where there is a ticket it is sold wherever the organiser sells it, never on this page. An open studio works differently, with drawings and rigs left out for as long as the visit lasts. A premiere or a degree show is when the animator is in the room.
Anyone with an account can put an occasion up here, and the artist role is not required, so a listing might come from a studio's newest member just as easily as from anyone else running one, narrowed only by discipline or by style for a reader who wants to look closer. Animation's artists sit just beyond that listing, alongside the finished work they have posted and the discipline's own hub page, together giving a fuller picture of who is making animation.
