Fiona Morley is a Brighton-based contemporary artist whose distinctive practice blurs the boundaries between drawing and sculpture. Working primarily with wire, she transforms the simplicity of a drawn line into delicate three-dimensional forms, creating intricate figurative works that seem to float between presence and absence.
Her work often centres on the human figure, interwoven with imagery drawn from the natural world, including birds, animals, insects and botanical forms. Through these connections, Morley explores themes of identity, emotion, vulnerability and our relationship with nature. Her sculptures possess an ethereal, dreamlike quality, balancing fragility with a strong sense of psychological presence.
Approaching wire as a means of “drawing in space,” Morley uses line, shadow and negative space to create works that shift as the viewer moves around them. The resulting pieces are intimate and poetic, inviting reflection on the complexity of human experience and the interconnectedness of the living world.
