Sophie Leleu

Sophie Leleu Mezzo-soprano Sophie Leleu began her artistic training by studying Dramatic Art and Celtic harp. In 2006, she obtained a bachelor’s degree with distinction from London’s Guildhall School of Music & Drama, studying with Laura Sarti. Then, she studied with Anke Eggers at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Sophie Leleu performs regularly in Europe, in the US and in Asia, as a soloist in opera productions : Penelope, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria by Monteverdi in London, Orfeo, Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck in Berlin, Marcelina, Le Nozze di Figaro at château de Rochambeau, Galathée and Bergère, Pastorale by Gerard Pesson in Théâtre du Châtelet, the title roles in La Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein and La Périchole by Offenbach, Nancy T’ang, Nixon in China by John Adams in Théâtre du Châtelet, Candelas, El Amor Brujo by Falla the Mayenne orchestra and in Vitry Theater, Jacqueline, Le Médecin malgré lui by Gounod in the Opera House of Saint-Etienne, the title role in Carmen by Bizet and the title-role of Fredegonde by Saint-Saëns at the Saigon Opera House with the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra in Vietnam etc... and in oratorios too : (Cantatas by Bach, Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini, Dixit Dominus by Haendel...) and in recital. With a keen interest in contemporary music and creation, Sophie sings the Folksongs by Luciano Berio and Stripsody by Cathy Berberian in the festival Musique Libre. Then she is invited to sing in Re-Walden by J.F.Peyret and Alexandros Markeas at the EMPAC in New York / Harvard University. She creates also the roles of Alejandra in the opera by Marco Suarez-Cifuentes : L’Enfer Musical with Le Balcon and Philandre in the opera La Pastorale d’Issy by Benjamin Attahir. In 2019, she will create the new opera El Monologo de Isabel by Marco Suarez-Cifuentes which will be performed in France and then during a tour in Colombia. In the spirit of creativity and through a desire to bring artists together, Sophie created the company Des Lieux et Des Etres of which she is the artistic director. Their latest production, a musical show around the works of Kurt Weill and Joseph Kosma entitled Je suis comme je suis (I am what I am), was performed at the Avignon festival in 2013 to great critical acclaim. Accompanying herself with her harp, she performs two new music programs : A place on earth, from baroque to folk music and From women to women, Sephardic melodies with Duo Racines (Roots duet) with Antoine Morineau, percussionist.
