mixed media (spring stone and metal) by Auxillia Tatisa In this masterpiece Auxillia Tatisa mixes two medias –stone and metal to tell a compelling story of the struggles that women face daily. It is for every girl and for every woman and mostly it is for every man. It is the story of mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, grandmothers and women strangers. The idea of this sculpture was conceived by Auxillia’s son Simbarashe McNorris Hakata and she gave it life in stone being the amazing artist that she was. Women are burdened with so much and most of it they carry in their hearts and minds hence the chains that flow from the head of a woman saying that she will not give up, a woman silent in her struggles yet her heart singing a song of hope. She proudly carries her burdens with such strength and grace that the chains become invisible yet they are always there. The chains hang on every woman you meet for every one of them Is fighting a great battle in her mind, in her family, culture, society even at the work place like Auxillia who was a mother and one of the very first few women artists to penetrate a male dominated field. It is up to every woman to let the chains they carry to shackle them or be free of the chains and it is for every man to acknowledge the beauty and worth of every woman that no one can put a price tag on. They need to be loved, to be honoured, encouraged and nurtured for these make the burden lighter and at times break the chains.
