Flesh by Iván Pérez
Flesh ´Flesh´ is an interdisciplinary dance performance created as my debut in the regular programming of the renown Netherlands Dance Theater II. As a former dancer of the company I had experienced the excitements, the adventures and the desires of a young dancer. When I decided to create ´Flesh´ I went back to those memories. The loss of my parents happen to be one of them, both of them passing away during my years as a young dancer in NDT II. All this explains how personal the creation process of ´Flesh´ was for me. With this work I aimed to question my perceptions of memory, loss, love and death. The poem of Keith Douglas, ´The knife´, inspired the structural narrative of the piece. ´The knife´was created in the 1940´s, during World War II, in which Douglas reveals the mystery of living in memory, the reminiscence of a past love and the permanence beyond flesh.
