Oh such tragedies feel my legs wavering and fading (A deep blue lament) They have clung to my gasping knees and carved a singular dome Hustling and nestling Eels and dolphins (For I have begun to remember) I remember when the roses plucked themselves and lay splattered in my brain cells fertile moths basil and dumps I remember when the mornings chipped like blunt graphite and layered my naked thighs like cold iron blades The highlights on my edging lips And the kerosene lantern that broke The sine dips slow and granular carefully parting every leaping thread of thought As if to demean their Valour for even existing I remember when the night curved like a basilisk and glued to my arching spine And hissed of the absurdity of my every breath Night and Day Night and Night
